Costs...
How much does it all cost?
If you want to try out DriveCheck first, then the normal cost will be £35.00, but as an introductory offer, the price is discounted to £25.00. Contact us.
For the full Skills For Life package, then it's £85, using your own car. Allow for your fuel costs too. However, we must tell you that in April 2008 the cost will unfortunately have to be increased to cater for higher operating costs. It will become £99, so book now before its too late!
Here's the SFL cost breakdown:
- One charge of £85 (£99 in April) buys associate membership of MAM, a copy of "How to be an Advanced Driver", a copy of "The Highway Code", the IAM Test fee, and the remainder of the first year's subscription to the IAM upon passing your test.
- If you are under 26 years old, you qualify for the IAM Young Driver discount scheme. This means you get a £20 discount on the SFL fee meaning your SFL will only cost you £65 (£79 in April). Bargain!
- When you pass your test, you automatically become a full member of MAM. Our subscription runs from January to December, so you will be invited to continue your membership with MAM by renewing your subscription at the beginning of each new calendar year.
- We recommend you shell out a further £12 for a copy of the Police driver's manual, Roadcraft, which can be purchased from "any good bookshop".
FAQs
- Can cars be hired?
No. We are not a driving school.
- What's the difference between IAM and MAM costs?
Membership of MAM group costs £12 per year, but this is only payable after you have passed your test. MAM's year runs from January to December and that is when your membership subscription will be due. If you pass your test in March, then you will get almost a year's free membership. However, if you pass your test in October, then oops, the year-end is up and you will only get a few weeks. Note, that to be a full member of MAM, you must also be a full member of the IAM, and this will cost you £18 per year.
- Possible savings (insurance, dealer discounts)
Discuss this with your insurance company.
- How can potential members pay (cheque / CC / etc and to whom?)
IAM HQ payments can be made by cheque or credit card direct to the IAM with your SFL form. MAM accepts cheques or cash paid to MAM via the Treasurer. Once you have passed the IAM test, MAM will invite you to complete a Standing Order form for automatic payment of £12 each year from your bank. By using a Standing Order rather than Direct Debit, you retain control over payments to MAM.
